GROUND BREAKING OF THE TEYA VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTER.

The executives of TEYA made an assessment to find out how best they could find a continuous support for the people of Twic East Community. The TEYA has been sponsoring over a hundred of students in both levels, secondary, primary school and high institutions like University of Juba, Don Bosco Vocational Training Center and Juba MTC Vocational Training Center. This was really a reliable support and human resource investment.

However, TEYA has been empowering youth and women ever since its start, there has been increasing number of students being supported as time goes on. As a new leader emerges, the number of educationally sponsored students increase. In the year 2023 till present, TEYA number of sponsorship has shoot to almost about 200 students for high institutions from less of about 10 students. This is a very rapid increase and it’s continuous.

To address this rapid increase of number of sponsorships, TEYA has decided to have their own vocational training center to help accommodate the increasing number and lower the expenses that could eventually lead to slowdown of the increasing number. This is one of the visions behind TEYA VT Center, it’s a center to empower youth and women and achieve technical skills that will help improve their lives and help solve problems arising in the community.

TEYA being a Community Based Organization (CBO), it seeks help from its members, well-wishers and their friends to help make the vocational training center a success. This will be by anyone willing to support reach out to the Resource Mobilization Committee (RMC) headed by Mr. Nul Mayen and members of his committee. Please seek directives from TEYA leaders in case you are unable to find the RMC.

The site of the construction has been put to be the TEYA center in Jebel Lemone near to St. John Parish in Shirikat. This has been approved by both the general assembly and TEYA quality assurance engineers. The engineers have assessed the construction site and found it legitimate to accommodate the Four Classroom Vocational training center. It still leaves the center spacious for other social events to continue.

Cited from the Deputy Chairman of TEYA Mr. Atem Khot Majok; “We are all here to work for our community and we need to produce people who will help us solve the problems arising every day. The vocational training center is a good choice for our community, people who are in need of technical skills but can’t get due to financial constraints will be accommodated by this center and that’s why it’s very eminent for us to support it and make it a success.”

Mr. Atem also added; “take a look at Bugema University in Uganda. It started back then as a bible study center but it’s a now a university with various courses, has a secondary school and a primary school. It’s these small steps that we take today that we will reap as big success.”

Mr. Nul Mayen the lead of the Resource Mobilization Committee attached to it the importance of the technical knowledge. He said; “Technical knowledge is an immediate reaping skill; it never waits for you to graduate so that you can start solving problems in the community. You start the following day after your training. I came about the importance of technical skills when my car had some sorts of fault in it back then in Kampala. Of course we sometimes assume that people who speak good English have acquired well knowledge to solve our issues. Yes, it can be but not consistent. When I found a guy who never knew English and could barely speak in vernacular, I had fears of giving him a chance to fix my car. After having a tedious day looking for whom I thought was the right mechanic, I was always returned to the same guy. That day, I realized that technical skills are the best we need. TEYA Vocational center will be a success.”

Many people both online and in person attendance have acknowledged it has a “dream-worth” idea for the TEYA. They have affirmed it and have started to make their pledges, over 60 bags of cement were recorded on ground, building stones, sand, materials and so on have been said by the well-wishers and members of TEYA. The mobilization is still ongoing and there are ways to reach out.
